For the new manual (pdf file) click here

If you use Mozilla, Netscape, Opera, Safari, you will have trouble with some of the features, especially if you login. The site works with Internet Explorer version 5.5 and above.

The site is best viewed at resolution 1024 by 768. If you don't know your resolution, and don't have a shortcut to change your monitor resolution, go to the control panel on the start menu, (found under settings) and click on display. Change your settings from display panel.

The first time you visit the site, it will take a while to load some graphics and the self-assessment section. just wait a while, especially if you are using a slow telephone modem. The site will run fine on a phone line though.
Blue (main) and grey (sub) menus
The top menu is for those that do not login. You won't be able to access stories, cartoons, self assessment, or games from this menu.

To print a page without graphics, use the print page button bottom left of page

To search the site use the search box at the bottom left of the page.
Login via "navigator" (on left with person in it)
When you login you should not have to use the top menu, use the menus within the "navigator", on the left. Your name and password should be at least 8 characters long.

You may wish to personalise your site, click on the "settings" menu
Self assessment (and advice)
This is the main part of the site. On your first visit, we suggest you start with strengths. Click on this, and then select your strengths by clicking on the tick boxes. Then move over the colour strip, and click on one of the colours. On second visits you can enter a new recording, by updating the last one, (which will be saved, so you can look at it again). Change whatever you want, and then click on update.

Next do the same with the problem menu, and then, when done, click on the results menu, to see how you did and whether you are OK, or not. Advice about problems and strength will be shown.

Mentors (all types)
This site is not a substitute for professional or parental contact and discussion.

Whether you are a professional, parent or peer mentor, using this site with teenagers should be relatively straightforward, please let us know if it is not, we are always trying to improve it. The site is designed to help give information about most common teenage strengths and problems in an easy and friendly way. It is not meant to tell teenagers what they should, (or should not do) but give them information about themselves so that they can think about the choices they make.

Teenagers may need help with getting around the site, understanding some of the technical words, (see glossary of terms for this), and for interpreting results from the self-assessment section. The results are only a rough guide, they should not be taken too seriously, and are no substitute for face to face assessment with a professional, or someone with a lot of experience of working with teenagers.
